About RockWallet
The playbook. The philosophy. Why this works.
The Story
I got tired of credit card recommendation sites pushing cards based on affiliate commissions instead of actual value. Cards with mediocre rewards kept showing up as “top picks” because they paid the highest referral fees.
So I built RockWallet — the credit card strategy site I wished existed. Every recommendation here is a card I personally use, have used, or would recommend to a friend. No card makes this list just because it pays well.
Between welcome bonuses, category optimization, referral offers, crypto rewards, and travel redemptions, my household has earned substantial value and reduced the out-of-pocket cost of several trips. Results depend on spending, eligibility, redemption choices, fees, and changing issuer terms.
Travel Rewards, Real Tradeoffs
Welcome bonuses, point transfers, and statement credits can offset travel costs. They are not the same as cash: annual fees, portal pricing, award availability, taxes, and unused credits all affect the result.
Capital One Venture X has a $395 annual fee, a $300 Capital One Travel credit, and 10,000 anniversary miles. Those benefits may offset the fee only if you would naturally use them. Robinhood Gold and Coinbase One also require paid memberships, and Bitcoin rewards can gain or lose value.
The approach is to choose a redemption plan in advance—such as eligible travel, cash, or investments—and then compare the realized value with fees and alternatives.

Travel Value

* Crypto values, APYs, card offers, and benefits can change. Digital assets are not bank deposits or FDIC/SIPC insured. All reward estimates assume paying in full every month with zero interest.
The Non-Negotiable Rules
Rule #1: Pay your statement balance in full.
Interest can quickly exceed the rewards earned. If you cannot repay planned purchases by the due date, prioritize avoiding interest over rewards.
Rule #2: Never spend more just to earn rewards.
Earn rewards on spending you were already going to do. Don't buy things you don't need for points.
Rule #3: Track your card anniversaries.
Before a fee posts, compare the card's value with available product changes or closure. Not every account can be downgraded, and either choice can affect rewards or credit history.
Rule #4: Compare referral and public application offers.
Referral terms can change and a site owner may be compensated. Verify the applicant offer, eligibility rules, and official issuer terms before applying.
Rule #5: Consider account age before closing.
Account history can affect credit, but fees, fraud risk, and available product changes matter too. Review the whole account before deciding.
Rule #6: Check TSA PreCheck or Global Entry reimbursement terms.
Some travel cards reimburse an eligible application fee at a defined interval. Enrollment, approval, and card-specific terms still apply.
